    One day，my three-year-old granddaughter Emily fell from her bike when I was cooking in the kitchen．I ran to help her get up．When she saw the blood（血)on her knees，she started to cry．I took her in my arms，saying words of comfort(安慰)as I carried her into the house．

    With much comfort，she let me wash and put ointment(药膏)on her knees．I kissed her and asked，"An better now sweetie?"

    "No．Grandma．You must say the Mommy words．"she said．I didn't know what she meant．Then she added，"You know，Grandma．Mommy says them to make me feel better．"Emily took a deep breath(呼吸)and started to recite(吟诵)，"A little kiss，a little hug．I give you these，with all my love…"

    My mind raced and I remembered．They were the same words that I had recited to my children，my mother to me，and her mother to her．My grandmother had died when my mother was eight．There had been nothing left but her dear memories．When she became a mother herself,she passed on the lore of her other and the Mommy words．Hearing them now understood that although I had never met my grandmother,I did know her. We were mother -we were close at heart．

    "Grandma,I am all better,"Emily said after she finished reciting．We kissed and hugged，and recited the Mommy words together．

Tuesday,13th September

    I arrived in New York two weeks ago.I am writing my diary(日记)in English because my English teacher Rachel says it is a good way to practise English．So far, I like New York and my school．I have three classes a day．Most of my classmates come from Japan，South Korea，Spain，Germany and Australia．There aren't many Chinese students．so I have to use English most of the time．I am learning a lot!I am living in student housing,and I have my own comfortable room．

Thursday.20th October

    My English is hopeless!I was on the bus this morning and a man spoke to me,but I couldn't understand him．I was so embarrassed(尴尬的)．Why is my English improving so slowly?I want to make lots of American friends,but this isn't happening so easily．I'm a shy girl．It is hard for me to talk to some people,even my classmates!I like them,but sometimes I can't understand them very well．I think I'm feeling homesick(想家的).I miss my friends and family．

Thursday.27th October

    I went to a school party last Friday and it was great．I talked with a Japanese boy named Kenji，a German girl named Wendy and an Italian girl named Carla．We talked about our countries' customs (风俗）and our experiences in America so far．We are going to walk around New York together this weekend．Also, Kenji wants me to write for the student newspaper here at school．Maybe things are getting better!

    A writer can write many songs．Sometimes a writer's favourite song isn't his most successful one．"Walkin' in the Sun"is a good example．It's not my most successful song but it is very meaningful to me．

    My father was blind(失明的)since he was about 6 years old．He was an insurance broker(保险经纪人）．He did most of his work at home in Brooklyn,New York．Most of his sales were done on me phone．And he was really good at it．Sometimes，however, he had to go to the offices in Manhattan．

I had an office at A&M Record's and they wanted me to record(录制)some of my songs．I thought about that day and"Walkin' in the sun"．It's very simple(简单的)．It says that when things are very negative ， you need to know when they get better. At the end of the song，it says：Even a blind man can tell when he's walkin' in the sun．

    I was the first person to record it but I'm very moved(感动的)because it's also been sung by many famous singers．I think people like it because they can tell it comes from a place of sincerity(真诚)．
