    For us humans, one of the greatest experiences is to taste all kinds of delicious food. But for penguins, they cannot get a taste of this happiness. That's because penguins can't actually taste the delicious flavors (味道) of their favorite food-fish!

    Scientists from the University of Michigan examined the genome (基因组)of five species of penguins. They found that no one can taste umami (鲜味),the flavor of meat or fish, the BBC reported.

    Many animals have five basic tastes: sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami. But according to genetic data, penguins are believed to have only sour and salty tastes.

    These findings are surprising and puzzling. And scientists don't have a good explanation for them. But they have a few ideas.

    First, one of the umami genes doesn't work in cold temperatures. "It's about zero degrees when they eat cold fish," Zhang Jianzhi, the lead scientist, told the Daily Mail, so even if the penguins had a functional (功能的)gene, it might not work when they needed it.

    Second, penguins' tongues (舌头) are very special which may have something to do with their lack of taste. Instead of being covered with taste buds which help to taste food, penguins' tongues are very spiky. This is better for them to hold slippery (滑的) fish than tasting them. One study even showed that some types of penguins don't even have taste buds.

    However, penguins seem to be managing just fine.

    "Their behavior of swallowing food whole, and their tongue structure and function, suggest that penguins need no taste perception," said Zhang.

    Kevin lived in a village in Africa. One morning, the teacher came into Kevin's classroom with a new girl. "Hi, guys! My name is Jenny. I am from America. I came to Africa with my dad. It's nice to meet everyone," the girl said.

    Kevin noticed (注意) that he looked different from Jenny. As soon as school was over, he ran home to ask his mother, "Mom, there is a new student Jenny in our class today. She comes from the US. Everyone in Africa has curly hair, right? Then, why is Jenny's hair straight?"

    One morning, Ann's neighbor Tracy found a lost dog wandering around the local primary school. She asked Ann if she could keep an eye on the dog. Ann said that she could watch it only for the day.

As soon as she opened the door, riley dashed into the boy's room where Ann found Jack suffering from a heart attack. Riley ran over to Jack, but as soon as Ann bent over to help him the dog went silent.

    If it hadn't come to get me, the doctor said Jack would have died," Ann reported to a local newspaper. At this point, no one had called to claim (认领) the dog, so Ann decided to keep it.

    The next morning Tracy got a call. A man named Peter recognized his lost dog and called the number on the flier. Tracy started crying, and told him, "That dog saved my friend's son."

    Peter drove to Ann's house to pick up his dog, and saw Thomas and Jack crying in the window. After a few moments, Peter said, "Maybe odie was supposed to find you, maybe you should keep it."

    Many of us enjoy watching animals in the world. But do you know they can teach us?

Tips for Writing Better Articles

    Many of us don't spend a lot of time improving our writing skills. This can be a problem when we hand in our articles. Good writing skills will help us improve our grades and benefit us later in life. .

    Make good word choices. When we're not sure which word is the right one for a sentence, look it up in a dictionary. Many of us choose words in a hurry and don't take the time to decide if they're proper.

    Check facts. If we want people to believe what we write, we must make sure our facts are true. We should use dependable facts.

    Rewrite. A common problem is that we don't like to rewrite. In fact, rewriting is the best way to find out and correct some mistakes, like grammar and spelling mistakes., though it takes more time and more work.

    Read aloud. Sometimes it's easier to find problems with spelling, word usage, and grammar when we read aloud. Reading aloud helps us not only find out our problems but also develop our writing.

    Have you ever been cycling (骑自行车运动) ? This spring my elder brother and I(spend) a long weekend cycling in the countryside. We rode(slow) along because we didn't come to break any speed records, or to do sports. We just wanted(get) some fresh air and a break from schoolwork.
