It's both an exciting but frightening experience for parents the moment their teenager obtains a driver's license. Here are some of the best and most recommended apps for teen drivers and for their parents' peace of mind. Safe Driver This app works by monitoring the position and the driving speed of your child. You can also set a speed limit. Whenever your child drives over this speed limit, an alert(警报)will be sent to your phone. Its only drawback is that it's only effective when your child opens the app on their phone while driving. Drive Safely If you're scared of your teenagers' tendencies to be on the phone while driving, this is a great app for them to use. Whenever a text message comes in, it'll read the text message out loud. The driver needn't take their hands off the wheel in order to check text messages on their phone. The user can even respond to the message via voice. Textecution This app locks a driver's phone while he or she is driving, preventing the user from gaining access to any of the SMS functions of the phone. Parents can be alerted via the app's website. For example, you'll be sent an alert in the event that the driver has requested permission to access their phone's messaging function. This function can only be activated if the driver is safely parked or in the event of an accident. If ever your child removes the application from their phone, parents can be informed, too. Life 360 The initial purpose of this app is connecting family members together. Through the app, you can share your position with one another wherever you are. It provides real-time data for parents about position and driving speed. Parents can, therefore, feel safe and secure knowing that their child has reached their intended destination. The application can be turned off. But it'll inform the members within the app that your child has disabled it.

Joanne was stuck in a traffic jam in central Birmingham at 5:30, and at 6:30 she was expected to be chairing a meeting of the tennis club. At last, the traffic was moving. She swung quickly racing to her house. As she opened the door, she nearly tripped over Sheba. "Hey, Sheba," she said, "I've got no time for you now, but I'll take you out as soon as I get back from tennis club." Then she noticed Sheba seemed to be coughing or choking. Obviously, she could hardly breathe. Immediately, Joanne realized she would have to take her to the vet (兽医). When she got there, the vet was just about to close for the day. Seeing the state of Sheba, Dr. Sterne brought her quickly into his office. "Listen, doctor, I'm really in a rush to get to a meeting-can I leave her with you, and go and get changed? I'll be back in ten minutes to pick her up, and then I'll take her on to the meeting with me. Is that OK?" "Sure," said the doctor. Joanne made the quick trip back to her house in a couple of minutes. As she was once more entering the hallway, the phone by the door began to ring. "This is Dr. Sterne," said an anxious voice. "I want you to get out of that house immediately," said the doctor's voice. "I'm coming round fight away, and the police will be there any time now. Wait outside!" At that moment, a police car screeched to a stop outside the house. Two policemen got out and ran into the house. Joanne was by now completely confused and very frightened. Then the doctor arrived. "Where's Sheba? Is she OK?" shouted Joanne. "She's free, Joanne. I took out the thing which was choking her, and she's OK now." Just then, the two policemen reappeared from the house, half-carrying a white-faced man, who could hardly walk. There was blood all over him. "My God," said Joanne, "how did he get in there? And how did you know he was there?" "I think he must be a burglar," said the doctor. "I knew he was there because when I finally removed what was stuck in Sheba's throat; it turned out to be three human fingers."

Candy comes in many flavors. Some taste like fruit. Some taste like flowers. Some are chewy, like taffy (太妃糖) and gum. Hard candies are, well. hard! So, they last a long time. But, in spoken English, there are some types of candy that you cannot eat. For example, you can't eat eye candy. Eye candy is a person-man or woman-who is very good-looking. So, looking at this person is a treat for the eye, just like candy is a treat for the taste buds. Do you hear of candy coat? Of course it is not a coat made of candy. But you can say I don't candy coat the truth. What does candy-coating something mean? Well, some pills are covered with a coat of thin, sweet candy. The coating makes swallowing the pill easier, and it may hide a bad taste. So, candy coating a difficult truth or situation means you don't directly discuss its bad parts. After talking about candy you may want to eat some candies. However, some people dislike things that are very sweet, especially adults. But even if you do not like candy, you can still be called a kid in a candy store. This expression means a person is very happy to do something or to simply be somewhere. Imagine a child going from one candy display to the next, not knowing which candy to choose! Talking about children brings us to another expression: as easy as taking candy from a baby. Think about a small helpless baby holding a piece of candy. Taking it would be very easy—mean, but easy. So, use this expression when you are talking about something that may be simple to do, but probably not right.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项。
Kids spend a lot of time looking at screens. And some parents worry. But a new study argues against the anxiety parents may feel. "Parents are hearing a message that social media, digital technology use is causing very serious and harmful problems like depression, like suicide-related behaviors," Candice Odgers, professor of psychological science at the University of California said. "But the idea is that if you shut off social media, you could in fact be making a situation worse. Parents are really being sent a message that is not supported by anything scientifically." Odgers and her colleagues looked at the screen-related behavior of 400 public school students in North Carolina aged 10 to 14. The researchers found that the kids spent between almost five hours to seven hours per day on their devices. That's a lot of hours but the researchers didn't find connection between the amount of time that young people spent online using digital technologies and mental health signs like depression, or anxiety. They found that young people who sent more text messages actually reported better mental health. This was a small association, but it reflects what other people have found: the people who are very connected offline, who use technology in the positive ways to stay connected, often are more connected online as well and experiencing better mental health. So why the fears about screen time? Odgers argues that the methods for previous studies may have led to false conclusions. When given a survey, the kids were often asked to recall, over the past six months, "How often are you online?" and "Have you ever felt depressed". And the relation between those two things has been used to spread a lot of fear around the connection between social media use and things like depression, yet 99.5% of the reasons that kids differ in their depression is due to something other than the time they spend online.

Unlike IQ, emotional intelligence is something we can develop with practice and time. . Here are some ways to improve emotional intelligence. Pay attention to your own feelings One of the first steps in improving your EQ is paying attention to your body language. Pause and pay attention to your body language when you experience different emotions. ? A lot of people will clench their fists, tighten their breathing, and tense up their shoulders. Release the tension consciously and take control of your breath. Also, consider writing down your feelings in a journal. , but can help you understand more details about how you came to feel a certain way. Empathize Pause before reacting and put yourself into the other person's place. How would you feel in his or her position? ? Understanding others is a quick way to release tension. It helps diffuse(化解) many situations while also making us better negotiators. Active listening . Active listening is a deliberate attempt to not only hear what someone is saying, but to understand it. This sounds simple enough, but many people will nod(点头) to give the impression of listening, but will actually just be waiting to reply or ignore the other person altogether. Those with low EQ will impulsively start talking about themselves every chance they get, no matter what the topic is. For active listening, try to build a conversation, which can promote mutual understanding.

However, to take a ten-minute break between classes is of great important. Otherwise, we may feel tiring both physically and mentally. During the ten-minute break we should do something to get rid of tiredness and should not do anything which will make us be too excited. What we need to do is a real rest instead of get too excited. I usually did some simple exercise during my ten-minute break. Sometimes I have a free chat with my classmates or just take a short walk. For a result, I always feel freshly in the next class. |
