This is the first time for China to hold the Winter Olympics. The 24th Winter Games will be held in 2022, from February 4th to 20th and then Beijing will be the first city in the world to stage both Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics.In 1980, Chinese athletes took part for the first time in the Winter Olympic Games at Lake Placid, New York, United States. At the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France, Chinese athletes won medals for the first time: Ye Qiaobo won two silver medals in the women’s 500 meters and 1,000 meters speed skating races. At the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, Chinese athlete Yang Yang won a gold medal in the women’s 500 meters short track speed skating race. This was the first gold medal won in Winter Games in Chinese history.
