Naomi Coleman,a
British tourist, was arrested(逮捕) at Sri Lanka's international
airport on Monday. She was at a centre in the airport waiting for a flight back
to the UK. Airport officers told Naomi that her Buddha(佛像) tattoo (文身) on her arm was disrespectful
to Sri Lankan culture. A police spokesman said she was arrested for “hurting
others' religious feelings”. Most Sri Lankans are Buddhists and have a deep
respect for the Buddha.
This is not the first time that tourists have
got in trouble for misunderstanding Sri Lankan culture. Another British tourist
was sent back to the UK because he spoke disrespectfully when passport officers
asked him about a Buddha tattoo on his arm. Britain's Independent Newspaper
reported that in 2010,R&B star Akon was told he
could not visit Sri Lanka because of a video for his song. The video showed a
pool party in front of a Buddha. A British government website warns people who
visit Sri Lanka not to pose(摆姿势) for photos in front of
a Buddha.
