On Thanksgiving weekend, the Heffelmire family gathered for a meal at their home. After dinner, the family went down to the finished basement (地下室)to relax except Charlotte's father, Eric, who was in the garage(车库)to fix his truck. Around 8 pm, Charlotte decided to check on her dad. She walked through the kitchen. When she opened the side door to the garage, black smoke rose up into the kitchen. She could only make out her father lying on his back, trapped under the truck. He'd removed the front passenger-side tyre(轮胎)and raised the truck on a jack(千斤顶).The truck had slipped off the jack, and now the whole weight of the wheel was on his chest and shoulders. Charlotte ran to the front of the truck and struggled to lift it. Eric was still conscious (有意识),and he cried, “You got it! One more try!” She tried again and was able to tip the truck backward just enough for her to pull her dad by the shirt with both hands from under the truck. She pulled him across the garage and 20 feet down the driveway. Twenty-five years ago, most young Britons wanted a career in law, to be a doctor, or, if they were creatively minded, to take up singing. But today, things stand differently. According to a survey by Tesco Mobile, a UK telecoms company, the “dream job” of young people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK is a video blogger, or “vlogger”. The survey, carried out among 1 , 002 people, found that as much as 40 percent of them put vlogger as their number one choice on a list of ideal jobs. The only reason for this change is undoubtedly the Internet and social media. They have made it so much easier to reach a global user, without having to get a job in show business in the traditional way. “In years gone by, the biggest stars were shaped and trained by the Hollywood studios; now, anyone with a computer camera can become an icon (偶像)," a Tesco Mobile spokesperson said in a news release(发布会).“These self-made stars record their hobbies to an admiring fan-base. Vloggers are the big stars of today because they are normal people interacting with their fans about everyday life.” However, what people see is only the great side of being a vlogger and they ignore the fact that only those who are successful get fame and fortune. There are the dreams that come true and the dreams that still remain dreams. This is why although vloggers are popular, some young people choose jobs that don't necessarily earn them fame, but allow them to make good use of the Internet to share their hobbies. Young Israeli David Leshaw, for example, runs a business called the Finishers Club. It's an online platform(平台)for runners to keep a record of their races. He told the website Zippia that his job allows him to express his thought, and is always a learning experience. And that's enough for him. 【1】What's the most popular job among British young people nowadays? A.A lawyer. B.A doctor. C.A vlogger. D.A singer. 【2】Why is it possible for anyone to become an icon these days? A.Because of the popularity of the computers. B.Because the traditional show business has disappeared. C.Because there are computer cameras for everyone to use. D.Because Internet and social media made it easy to reach a global user. 【3】What's the meaning of the underlined word “interact” in Paragraph 4? A.To discuss. B.To force. C.To communicate. D.To take part in. 【4】What's the author's opinion towards the vloggers? A.All vloggers can't be successful. B.Vloggers should be supported. C.Vloggers should be encouraged. D.Vloggers are very helpful to society. |

A few years ago, my sister-in-law started to feel concerned about her teenage daughter. What was she doing after school? Where was she spending her time? My niece was an excellent student, and took part in all kinds of after-class activities. Even so, her mom decided to put a tracking app(跟踪应用程序)on the kid's phone. At first, this made my sister-in-law “feel better”. Then the good situation suddenly ended. She recalled, “I found out that she was someplace that she said she wasn't. I went out in the middle of the night and found her walking without shoes in the middle of the street with some friends. " Things went quickly downhill for the mother and the daughter after that. With 73 % of teens having their own smart phones now, according to a 2015 Pew study, more and more of their parents are facing the question: To watch or not ? Ana Homayoun, founder of Green Ivy Educational Consulting, has advised many parents and their kids about this. "I've found teens are more acceptable to tracking apps when it is included as part of a family agreement to improve safety than when it is placed as a secret tool to watch them,“ she said. Mark Bell, a father of a teenage girl, said, “We don't have tracking apps, but we have set some ground rules that my daughter must follow in exchange for us providing a smart phone,“ he said. For example, his daughter must “friend“ him on social media so that he can read posts, and must share all passwords. When you're trying to build trust, you need to create an environment that encourages it. So, to win their trust, you always need to be straight with your children. "Parents must let children know how and when they'll be watching them,“ said Doctor Pauleh Weigle. If they're not open about it, he warns, it can “greatly damage the parent and child relationship”. 【1】Why is the author's sister-in-law and her daughter referred to in the first two paragraphs? A.The author wants to give an example of the failure use of the tracking app. B.The author wants to introduce he had more communication with her daughter. C.The author wants to say that she wasn't worried about her daughter any more. D.The author wants to express he felt good with knowing more about her daughter's activities. 【2】What is probably the majority children's attitude towards tracking app in their phones? A.They doubt family agreements. B.They dislike being watched secretly. C.They are worried about online safety. D.They welcome the use of tracking apps. 【3】Why is Ana Homayoun mentioned in Paragraph 4? A.To show how to use smart phone safely. B.To teach how to put tracking app on phones. C.To give some suggestions on how to make children accept it. D.To tell the importance of being children's friends instead of tracking. 【4】What should be done before using a tracking app according to Weigle? A.Check the kid's phone. B.Teach the kid how to use it. C.Advise the kid to use his phone less. D.Discuss with the kids and have an agreement with them. |
