Volunteering Is Fun
One afternoon I was sitting at home feeling so bored. Instead of feeling sorry for myself. I wanted to meet people and have new experiences so I decided to start volunteering. I searched on my computer and found a website where I could volunteer on a farm in France.
My time working on a farm was a new experience for me. It was basically a free holiday as food and accommodation were provided. However,it was not your typical holiday as I had to look after fifteen horses and sleep at the top of a tower in a castle!I was an awful farmer but it did not matter because I made some great friends.
However, you do not need to go abroad to volunteer. I have had plenty of adventures at home as volunteering can become a hobby. For example,I love singing so I had a good laugh waving my arms in an attempt to conduct my local choir(唱诗班). I did slowly improve and it felt great to conduct the choir in a concert. At university,I organized a concert for charity with my friends. It was really fun finding bands and raising money for a cause we believe in.
It is true that you feel good volunteering but there are also other advantages. I once volunteered as a server at a charity sports event where the organizers gave me cupcakes to thank me for my services. I also volunteered in a charity shop so I found loads of nice cheap clothes to update my wardrobe(衣柜).
While this is all fun,my favorite aspect of volunteering is creating and sharing stories. My terrible attempts at farming have given me hilarious stories to tell!Talking to volunteers from different countries and backgrounds has also helped me learn more about the world. I feel thankful to have had so much fun with many nice people thanks to volunteering.

Halloween is a holiday full of tricks and treats and all things frightening and fun. But what happens when you trade your sweets for a scare? The result is always healthier than candy.
Being frightened can be good for you. Think about your favorite scary books or movies. You are scared but you just can't resist reading or watching them. Being frightened makes your brain flood with healthy chemical substances that excite your mood and release feelings of great excitement.
When you are frightened, your body also produces a chemical called oxytocin, which helps people bond with one another. So, if you're at a haunted(闹鬼的) house with some pals, that experience can help solidify your friendship. "Watch people walking out of a haunted house, and you'll see lots of smiles and high fives." says Dr.Marge Kerr, a sociologist who studies fear.
There is also some evidence that being scared can help a person manage stressful situations. Things like a presentation in front of your class or performing in a school play can make us fearful and anxious. But these experiences help build a sort of endurance to fear that makes us more confident. "You become more comfortable with the physical experience of fear, and so you're better able to work through it during these situations."Kerr explains.
Though some haunting may be healthy, it's important to remember that people experience fear in different ways. What may be fun for one person could be too scary for another. And Kerr notes that kids younger than six or seven can't separate reality and make-believe, so seeing something frightening could have lasting, negative effects.
【1】Why does the author mention"Halloween"in Paragraph 1?

A.We'll feel worried if we're scared.
B.Being frightened helps people stay closer.
C.Fearfulness controls our confidence.

In March, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio ended a decade-long citywide ban on cellphone in public schools and left them to make up their own rules because he argued that by denying access for some students, the city was exacerbating(使加重) the achievement gap in students’ performance.
Two researchers from the London School of Economics, Richard Murphy and Louis Philippe Beland argued that this might have the opposite effect because students are not generally using their phones to assist in their classroom work during school. "Schools could significantly reduce the education achievement gap by prohibiting cellphones use in schools, and so by allowing phones in schools, New York may unintentionally increase the inequalities of outcomes," they told CNN.
However, some educators have come to embrace the technology in their students' pockets. Teacher Ken Halla has been teaching world history and Advanced Placement for 22 years but his students' cellphone ownership forced him to adapt to his classroom dynamics where he no longer is the single authority lecturing, according to the National Education Association(NEA). He now roams(漫步) the classroom and encourages students to use their cellphones to help them complete their assignments, this way they are less likely to let their devices distract themselves.
"It's harder to do negative behavior when the phones are out and the teacher is walking around." Mr Halla told the NEA. "I've always been that type of person who likes to adapt and change as time goes on. Otherwise, I wouldn't still be teaching many years down the road."
【1】Why was the ban on cellphones stopped in New York public schools?
A.Because it negatively affected students' health.
B.Because it limited most students' progress.
C.Because it brought about unexpected side effects.
D.Because it was requested by parents and students.
【2】How did the two researchers find New York's act?
A.Appreciative. B.Meaningless.
C.Impractical. D.Worrying.
【3】What is Halla's class like?
A.Students can solve problems using cellphones.
B.Students can use cellphones at will.
C.The class focuses on how to use cellphones.
D.He is the only center of the entire class.
【4】What does the phrase"that type of person"in the last paragraph refer to?

Last summer, my family spend several days on the coast. Fortunate, the first day we were there, it was such cold that it was not a good day for the beach! We were a bit of disappointed, but decided to do some sightseeing and went to the nearest towns. When we got there, the only thing to visiting was a very funny little museum. It was the collection of the local person from the 19th century. Inside, there were more than a hundred animals from the area, what had been preserved in glass cases. I had never interested in nature before, but at that time I found it much more fascinated than lying on a beach!
