Li Siying, a 28-year-old woman from Changchun, tried very hard to realize her dream and support a family by collecting and selling rubbish.

She used to live in a 1 family. But when she was 15 years old, misfortune (不幸) fell upon her and 2everything. Her father experienced a business failure(失败). Their house, car and savings were all gone. It was a huge disaster (灾难) to her father and made him3 and leave them forever. Her mother's condition had not been well before and it became 4 at that time. Since then, Li and her family lived a very hard life. Li and her brother had to5their study and tried to find some jobs to support the family.

Li once came to a restaurant and begged the owner to give her a job. But the owner6 and told her that it was illegal (违法的) to let a 15-year-old girl work. She was very upset and7. One day when she walked along the street, Li kicked a bottle. Looking at the bottle, the idea came to her that she could collect and sell rubbish to earn money for her family. In summer, the garbage bin had a strong and unpleasant 8. In winter, the cold weather hurt her hands. Besides, she was often 9 by others.  In the face of all these difficulties, Li was 10afraid. "Life is hard for me but tears cannot help either. A day will pass no matter how you feel about it so why not live with smiles?" she said.

    When we travel from one country to another, we find people have quite different feelings about food. People often feel what they eat is normal(正常的), and what other people eat is strange(奇怪的)or silly. In most parts of Asia, for example, people like rice and meat. In England, people eat potatoes every day. In the Middle East, bread is the main part of every meal. Eating, like so many things we do, becomes a habit which is difficult to change. Americans like to drink a lot of orange juice and coffee. The English drink tea four or five times every day. Australians drink a great deal of beer, and the French drink wine every day.

    The sort of meat people like to eat is also different from one country to another. Horse meat is thought to be delicious in France. In Hong Kong, some people enjoy eating snakes. New Zealanders eat sheep meat, but they never eat goat meat. The Japanese don't like to eat sheep meat because of its smell, but they enjoy eating uncooked fish. People everywhere enjoy eating what they have always eaten, and there is very little we can do to change our eating habits.
