1. Wear comfortable underwear.

“I only wear granny panties(内裤),” said Julia Baylis, 22. Mayan Toledano, 27, added: “What’s sexy for us is being natural and comfortable.”   37

2. Stare into the eyes of someone you love (or want to love) for exactly four minutes.

I have been in Limoges for a month now. since living here, I have tried to integrate(融合) into the local community and one way I have found to do this is by following the local rugby team.

I decided to look for information on the local rugby team after the tourism office could not help me. I searched for the club office online and decided to look into it. The following day I went back to the club after speaking with them and decided to get a season ticket for the rest of my stay here. I will now be going to each home game as well as travelling to the away games with the team and the fans. I am sure that it is going to be a great experience during my time abroad here. I will also be travelling through various regions of France so I will be visiting new places throughout the season. There is another team in a town called Brive not so far away who play in the top league in France, but I decided to stay local. I may go and see them with other assistants if possible during our stay.

I witnessed a friendly match on Saturday when they played Stade Dijon in the division below them. The match finished 70-12. After the match, both teams went to the club house to see the Rugby World Cup semi-final between New Zealand and Australia. Both teams respected each others which is something you don’t always see in other sports. I spoke to the president of the club after the game and he told me, “This is a family club.” Hopefully this year will be a good year for Limoges.

Europe’s deadly outbreak of a rare form of E. coli bacteria (大肠杆菌) has brought new attention to food safety issues. One of the problems when people get sick from food is that the simplest question is often difficult or even impossible to answer. Just what did the people eat that made them sick?

Of course, one way to avoid these medical mysteries is to keep dangerous organisms out of the food supply. This is easier said than done, but scientists keep looking for new ways.

Scientists in the United States have developed an experimental system that uses a high-tech optical scanner. The system is designed to identify the presence of contaminants(致污物) like soil or animal waste on fresh produce. These can be sources of E. coli. E. coli bacteria naturally live in the intestines() of humans and many animals. Most kinds of E. coli are harmless but some can make people sick.

The new scanner can also show damage and imperfections that might make the produce unappealing to shoppers.

Scientists designed the system at a Department of Agriculture research center in Beltsville, Maryland. Moon Kim of the Agricultural Research Service led the team.

MOON KIM: “We were requested, we were asked, to develop a method to detect contamination in produce. So we started with the apple as the model sample.”

The scanner uses a high-speed camera placed over the conveyer belt that moves the produce along. As the apples move along the belt, the scanner captures images of each piece of fruit.

Moon Kim says the team hopes the system will be available before long.

MOON KIM: “We are targeting for development in commercial plants for the next several years.”

The scanner can direct a sorting machine to separate the bad apples from the good ones. The system is currently able to show the surface of only half the apple as it speeds by. The inventers hope to improve the process so it can show the whole surface.

57. What is the main topic of the text?

 C. can only capture images of the whole apple

 D. can identify the presence of contaminants

60. What can be inferred from the text?

 A. The scanner needs to be improved.

 B. The scanner will be available in the next several years.

 C. Moon Kim is unwilling to develop the scanner.

 D. The scanner is connected to a sorting machine.

Dear Editor,

I have been reading your newspaper, the Hometown Gazette, for the past two years, ever since I moved to Smithville. We moved here from New York City, so I am accustomed to reading excellent newspapers such as the New York Times. In fact, we still have the Times delivered on Sundays. The entire family enjoys reading the recipes (食谱) in the magazine, as well as the Styles section.

The Times is great, but the Gazette is another story. I’ve never read an article that doesn’t contain at least three or four spelling or grammatical errors. For instance, in last week’s issue, you misspelled the word “secretary,” used a singular verb with a plural noun, and used “it’s” as a possessive (所有格). And that was just in the lead story! In case you never went to a primary school, “it’s” means “it is.” It’s not a possessive adjective!

It’s a pity that this tiny little hick (乡下的,老土的) town has only one newspaper, because I’d like to have an alternative to the rag you publish. I find it hard to believe your news stories. If you can’t spell correctly, how can you get your facts right?

I’ve been meaning to get this off my chest for some time. Please cancel my subscription (订阅). And buy yourself a dictionary.

Sincerely,

Jane Z.Jones

There is a large percentage of Asian people in the US. They’re hard working, respectful but strange sometimes. If you don’t understand the culture, you will get some problems with them. Asian people are different from any other cultures if you think you know them, you might want to think again.

How are they different? When it comes to most Asian culture, respect is everything. You can do anything you want but don't disrespect an Asian man. You will get some real consequences afterward and especially if he is your boss. It’s something called “face saving” in the Asian culture. It’s ridiculous sometimes but it’s their culture. Sometimes their culture can come in between their relationship at work. Asian people might expect a lot of respect from their co-workers when their co-workers just see them as an equal.

Americans are very different from Asian people. If you’re Asian, you might want to understand the American culture and even adapt to their culture if you work with them. It will be easier for you since you’re in their countries. Imagine an American working in China, expecting Chinese co-workers to get along with him when he criticizes them straight out on every single matter in front of everyone. I think they will take him outside and take care of him. It just doesn’t work that way with Asian people.

If you’re an American boss giving your Asian employee a review, you will see that they will have a problem with your negative remarks. They will think that you don’t like them, disrespectful, and want to get rid of them; when in fact, you’re just doing your job. Of course, it’s not fair for you as an American boss but just expect that it can be something that is on your Asian employee’s mind.

32. The Americans can’t get along well with the Asians probably because______.

A. their cultures are different                    B. they don’t like each other

C. both of them are too proud               D. they have different political views

33. The underlined phrase “face saving” in Paragraph 2 probably means_____.

A. saving some money for later use             B. making faces to please your boss

C. showing some respect to somebody           D. helping somebody out of trouble

34. From the third paragraph we can know that it is difficult_________.

A. for the Asians to accept the culture in America

B. for the Americans to adapt to the culture in China

C. for people to learn the culture in a foreign country

D. for people to follow the culture in their own country

35.The negative remarks an American boss gives on your work probably mean he/she_______________.

A. doesn’t like you any longer             B. thinks you are not worth respecting

C. offer you some better advice      D. wants you to improve your work

Bad teeth can be painful and even be deadly. Infections of the gums (牙龈) and teeth can release bacteria into the blood system. Those bacteria can increase the chance of a heart attack or stroke and worsen the effects of other diseases. And adults are not the only ones at risk. For example, a 12yearold boy died when a tooth infection spread to his brain in 2007 in Washington. Experts said it might have been prevented had he received the dental care he needed.

Experts say good dental care starts at birth. Breast milkthey sayis the best food for the healthy development of teeth. Breast milk can help slow bacterial growth and acid production in the mouth. But dentists say a baby’s gums and early teeth should be cleaned after each feeding by using a cloth with a little warm water. Experts say if you decide to put your baby to sleep with a bottle, give only water.

When baby teeth begin to appearyou can clean them with a wet toothbrush. Dentists say it is important to find soft toothbrushes made especially for babies and to use them very gently. The use of fluoride (氟化物) to protect teeth is common in many parts of the world. For example, it is often added to drinking water supplies. The fluoride mixes with enamel (釉质)the hard surface on teeth, to help prevent holes from forming.

But young children often swallow toothpaste when they brush their teeth. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry notes that swallowing fluoridated toothpaste can cause problems. So young children should be carefully watched when they brush their teeth. And only a small amount of fluoridated toothpaste, the size of a pea, should be used.

Parents often wonder what effect finger sucking might have on their baby’s teeth. Dental experts generally agree that this is fine early in life. Most children stop sucking their fingers by the age of four. If it continuesexperts advise parents to talk to their children’s dentists or doctors because it could interfere with the correct development of permanent teeth.

Dentists say children should have their first dental visit at least by the time they are one year old. They say babies should be examined when their first teeth appear—usually at around six months.

8What’s the main idea of the first paragraph?

ABad teeth can be a threat to people’s health.

BBad teeth come along with other health problems.

CTooth infections can spread to brain easily.

DDental care should be done at an early age.

9According to the passage, what is the function of fluoride?

AMaking the surface on teeth much cleaner.

BProtecting gums from being infected.

CKeeping holes on teeth from forming.

DSlowing down bacterial growth and acid production.

10The underlined phrase “interfere with” in Para.5 probably means________.

Ado harm to          Baccount for

Ccontribute to        Dstand for

11What is the purpose of the author in writing the passage?

ATo warn us of the deadly infections of gums and teeth.

BTo introduce the advantages of fluoridated toothpaste.

CTo draw our attention to the dental care of young children.

DTo present the research results about dental care.
